Do I have to have experience in martial arts to train in BJJ? 

No, you do not need to have previous experience in martial arts, we take total beginners, and all our classes are beginner friendly. 

What is BJJ? 

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling art with no striking allowed. It's a system that uses joint locks and chokes to subdue an opponent. 

What's the difference between Gi  No-Gi training?

The main difference is in the clothing you train in, No-Gi is practised in shorts and a rash guard/t-shirt, and Bjj uses a "judo" type uniform. 

What is a Gi?

A Gi is a uniform that we wear when practising BJJ that will not rip or tear, whilst practising the art. Typically white, blue or black fastened with a belt. 

Do I need to buy a Gi before attending class? 

You do not need to purchase a Gi for your first session, the academy should have one to borrow. 

Do you mix your classes? 

All classes are mixed both males and females train together, we also mix the belt levels in classes too. 

What do I need for my first class?

For all classes at the academy, you will need shorts and a T-Shirt with No zips, studs, pockets or plastics attached. Nothing that could scratch or cause injury damage to yourself others or the training mats. 

What if I already have a Gi but have another team's patch or logo on it?

That's not a problem you can wear that Gi for your trial and subsequent session, and then if you decide to join the academy we can change patches or remove them. 

How do I sign up?

There is no joining or membership fee to pay, Also there are No contracts to sign. you also get a free trial session to get a feel for the academy and teaching style.
