LEARN OUR STYLE OF K1/KICKBOXING, OKINAWAN BOXING

ORIGIN OF THE NAME AND STYLE, ACHIEVEMENTS

Okinawan Boxing is a Style that was officially recognised in 2010 by The World United Martial Arts Federation, Once many stipulations had been met, it was then officially recognised by The Head of the W.U.M.A organisation. As its own style.

The concept of Okinawan Boxing was created and formed by its founder and Head instructor Sensei Aaron Naisbet. Okinawan Boxing was primarily created and developed to compete in K1 Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts competition, Its creation is a combination of a multitude of striking arts.

The three primary Martial Arts that its founder studied and used in its concepts are Shotokan Karate, Goju Ryu Karate, and Western Boxing. Which makes it a multifaceted Striking Art, The style uses what Sensei Aaron felt were the best attributes and techniques from each Art, like the straight long punches and liner high kicks and foot sweeps predominately from Shotokan karate.

As well as the low kicks and use of knees, elbows from Goju-Ryu karate, and the techniques used in western boxing. Especially the importance of the lead Jab, combination punching, and use of body punching.

Sensei Aaron also uses a lot of the concepts from Karate like the switching of stances blended with the use of Ta-Sabaki "body evasion" and head movement, footwork, and angles of western boxing. A big focus in Okinawan Boxing is the art of defensive and countering techniques. "You don't get hit, you don't get hurt."

Practitioners of Okinawan Boxing wear K1 style shorts and not a karate style uniform, there are also no Katas practiced in the Art, It is a full contact art and students wear respective equipment such as 16oz boxing gloves and heavy shin protection to train in.

MORE THAN JUST A NAME

It was given the name Okinawan Boxing, to pay tribute to its father arts. Such as Karate, which is an Okinawan martial art, and the Noble art, also known as The Marquess of Queensbury art of Boxing. Which was developed in Britain in 1867, also known as the Noble Art of Pugilism, Hence the name of Okinawan Boxing.

Also, the logo has meaning and pays tribute to the art's origins. The use of the Okinawan flag and the Okinawan Temple make up part of the logo as well as the western boxing gloves.

Also, the name is to define itself as its own martial art, As it could not be named karate as we do not wear a Gi or perform karate Kata. We do not wear belts, "although belts are awarded" we have four belts, we do not do gradings, like in karate. Belts are awarded at the instructor's discretion when it is felt a student is ready, or they have excelled in K1 and MMA competition.

It is not boxing as we kick, knee, and use spinning techniques, also you can hold and hit your opponent.

It could not be called kickboxing as Sensei Aaron is not a kickboxer has no belts in kickboxing and didn't compete in kickboxing. So the name defines itself for what it is and its origins and founder's history, this also defines it from the other Striking arts and resolves any misconceptions.
